Penalty Abatement may be the savior for Michigan business and personal finances.
Penalty abatement is needed when a company or individual pays their taxes late or not all, and it is granted when the people requesting can prove that they had fair reasons not to pay taxes as the law commands. Fees can be lessened or removed through first-time penalty abatement, relief due to reasonable cause, and statutory exception.

20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE | TAX RESOLUTION CASES
“ We understand the needs for professionalism, privacy and confidentiality in our relationship with our clients. Our Tax Resolution Law Firm will work with you to resolve your tax concerns, effectively and efficiently!”
First Time Penalty Abatement
As the name suggests, this form of relief is given to people once if they have a history of paying their taxes as the IRS demands. People would qualify for this service if they had no penalties for the past three tax years, are up to date or have an extension on tax filing, or have agreed upon a due date for taxes. If this date is not met, there is a failure-to-pay penalty which the IRS advises to pay completely before asking for first-time relief. Although it is wise to be meticulous with government records, the IRS can assist individuals more than once.
Relief Due to Reasonable Cause
This reduction can be given more often, so long as the owner shows competence in their financial endeavors. In addition to their competence, they must also show that their inability to file taxes was due to factors outside of their control. This includes medical emergencies, fire, or anything else that proves that the one requesting abatement had a logical explanation for not meeting tax requirements. Of course, citizens must be able to answer a series of questions, such as when and how the event preventing them from fulfilling tax obligations happened and if they still attempted to file after said event. Interest relief is available depending on the circumstance. The same goes for any discrepancies from legal institutions.
Statutory Exception
A statutory exception is needed when a business is given incorrect directions from the IRS. This advice can be from written or spoken words, but when reporting the IRS mistake, be sure to include a written request for advice and the response containing false information. If this exception is allowed, interest relief may be given depending on the state of the reporter’s account.
Abatement may be available to individuals and businesses when tax errors take place; regardless, be truthful and cautious when recording financial information. Keep in mind; these are just general guidelines on the subject of penalty abatement, and laws may vary from state to state and country to country.
